KnowWhere privacy policy
Effective October 6, 2026. KnowWhere is made by Aatox ("we", "us").
The short version
- Your memories (items and places) live on your phone, encrypted. We do not run a memory database.
- There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no crash-reporting in the app.
- When you talk to KnowWhere, your voice request is sent to Google's Gemini service so it can understand English, Hindi and Urdu.
- You can delete everything on your phone at any time.
What stays on your phone
- The items you save, where you put them, when, and the earlier places of an item.
- Photos you attach. They are stored in the app's private storage and are never sent anywhere.
- Your settings, and the secure keys the app needs to work.
The database is encrypted on the phone where the phone allows it. The app is excluded from phone backups, so use the export button in Settings if you want your own copy.
What is sent when you use your voice
When you tap the microphone, use the Speak button, the widget or the Quick Settings tile, KnowWhere listens for one request. To understand it, the following leaves your phone:
- The recording of your request, streamed to Google Gemini while you speak, or sent after you finish.
- The names of items you already saved (not their places), so Gemini can match "keys" with a saved "car keys".
- A place when you ask about it, so Gemini can answer in a natural sentence. In the classic mode, the places of your most recent items can be sent along with a request for the same reason. Turn off Personal replies in Settings to keep every place on your phone; replies then use simple built-in sentences.
- The text of a short spoken reply, when the reply is turned into speech by Gemini.
Photos and the location text of items you do not ask about are not sent. KnowWhere never listens in the background; the microphone is used only during a request you start.
Aatox's server
To keep Google's access key off your phone, some requests pass through a small server run by Aatox, which gives your phone a short-lived pass and forwards requests to Google. The server does not store your recordings, transcripts, items or places. It keeps only technical records such as the time, the model used and the result status, to keep the service working and protect it from abuse.
Google Gemini
Google processes your requests under its own terms for the Gemini API. Depending on the plan Aatox uses with Google, Google may keep requests for a limited time and, on some plans, may use them to improve its products. We will update this page if our plan changes. You can read Google's terms and privacy information on its website.
Offline and on-device mode
If cloud voice is off or unavailable, KnowWhere uses your phone's own speech recognition and voice. That is handled by your phone's speech service under the phone maker's and Google's terms.
Permissions
- Microphone: to hear your request.
- Notifications: to show that it is listening and what it did, and for the optional Speak button.
